Peter Gordon To Direct Arthur Russell’s Instrumentals

Art & Culture

London label Foom is bringing one of Arthur Russell's most influential works 'Instrumentals'  to European and UK shores this May for the first time.

"Arthur Russell's Instrumentals Directed by Peter Gordon" will be performed by original 'Instrumentals' ensemble musicians Rhys Chatham, Peter Zummo, Ernie Brooks and Bill Ruyle, alongside Peter Gordon as well as Max Gordon, Gerry O'Beirne and LCD Soundsystem's Gavin Russom. Support for the headline dates will come from Foom label boss Benjamin Freeney.

Peter Gordon and Arthur Russell took New York by storm in the late 70s with their collaborations and performances. Having worked together on 'Instrumentals' the piece became part of the minimalist movement of the time, evolving a little more each time the ensemble performed the piece.

Due to high demand a second show has been announced for Cecil Sharp House on the 25th of May and will go on sale this Friday after the initial show at Islington Assembly Rooms sold out in just under an hour.
