Le Guess Who? announce full curated programs
Le Guess Who? have revealed their full curated programs for this year's edition of the Utrecht-based festival.
The first curated program to be revealed is by Grammy-nominated Malian musicial Fatoumata Diawara, who hones in on artists related to afrocubism and afrofuturism. The program will feature performances from Cuban jazz pianist Roberto Fonseca, who performed with Buena Vista Social Club; Master Soumy, a Malian rapper who addresses subjects like education, migration and religion; and Ahmed Ag Kaedy, whose music explores the remnants of the Kidal religion, where he is banished from. Diawara will also perform and screen two films called Mali Blues and Yao.
The second program to be announced has been curated by Dutch fashion designer Iris van Herpen and her partner, sound artist Salvador Breed. They will present performances from Danish pop artists Efterklang; Berlin-based duo Amnesia Scanner; J-E-T-S, the collaborative project from Jimmy Edgar and Machinedrum's Travis Stewart; R&S Records latest signee Djrum and American rapper and activist Mykki Blanco.
There have also been new additions to the existing curated programs curated by Moon Duo, Patrick Higgins and The Bug, including Holly Herndon who will present her new album 'PROTO' live; forward-thinking violinist and vocalist Sudan Archives; Berlin-based post-punk/noise duo Mueran Humanos; Stockholm's Kali Malone; noise rock duo Lightning Bolt and multidisciplinary artist Dossier X.
In addition, Serbian DJ Vladimir Ivcovic will present the lost works of fellow Serbian producer Mitar Subotić whose masterpiece Wayang was a crowning moment in experimental electronic music and combined cinematic music with polyrhythms, archived sounds and vocal chants.
Alongside the curated programs, Le Guess Who? will host two label nights Príncipe Discos and Spazio Disponibile during the festival. The Portuguese contemporary dance music label and Italian techno imprint will see performances from DJ Marfox, DJ Firmeza, Nídia, Donato Dozzy, Neel, Grand River and Crossing Avenue.
They join the existing line up which features artists like Deerhunter, Lafawndah, Doug Hream Blunt, Idris Ackamoor and the Pyramids, Visible Cloaks, Yoshio Ojima and Satsuki Shibano.
Le Guess Who? is a boundary-crossing music festival in Utrecht that takes place between 7-10 November and features artists from across the world.
