Art & Culture

It's been announced that lead singer and lyricist of elbow, BBC 6 Music DJ and TV presenter Guy Garvey, will curate Southbank Centre's 23rd Meltdown Festival in June 2016. This year has seen him take a break from his band duties to allow time for him to work on his solo debut. The album 'Courting the Squall' was recorded between Peter Gabriel's Realworld Studios in Box and Manchester's Blueprint Studios. 2016 marks Guy's return to both Southbank Centre and Meltdown having been invited by Massive Attack to play Meltdown back in 2008 with elbow.

As well as some internationally renowned artists, Guy will also introduce us to a fair few acts we may not have heard of. Through his work on BBC 6 Music Guy Garvey's Finest Hour and his TV show Music Box with Guy Garvey, he prides himself on giving new and undiscovered talent the chance it deserves.

"I see this as the perfect opportunity to shine a light on some amazing new talent whilst recognising and celebrating the artists that have had an influence on the new sounds of today. Beyond that I want my Meltdown to be a party where everyone feels invited and everyone leaves having had the best night out.”

Meltdown 2016 will be held between 10th – 19th June and the line up will be announced during the coming months. You can keep up to date on the Southbank Centre website.
