8 Tracks: Of House In The Field With Telfort

Music

Based in Edinburgh Telfort is becoming hot property of sorts, if that is an appropriate piece of terminology to describe an up and coming producer and disc jockey on the rise. The Scottish producer has been cutting his teeth up North for many years: hosting parties, releasing records and launching his own label. His sound draws particular focus to house music, particularly that with a subtle focus on groove and those seldom found moments of transfixed hypnotism on the dancefloor. His music is accomplished and distinguished.

He will appear at Field Maneuvers between the 1st and 3rd of September. We invited him to contribute to our eight tracks series.

Vincent Floyd - Love's Pain

One of Vincent Floyd’s more recent releases after his 8 year hiatus and a highlight from last year for me. If the sun is out then this one may well be!

  • Boo Williams - Fruits Of The Spirit (Original Mix)

I think this might be one of my favourite tracks of all time and one I keep on going back to, including for the podcast I did for Field Maneuvers recently! Absolute weapon.

  • Telfort - Until Now (Julius Steinhoff Version)

To say I’m happy with this Julius Steinhoff remix would be an understatement. It started as an edit he sent through of the original, completely unexpectedly, but I had to seize the opportunity to have this remix from the Smallville Records boss man included on the new record (TLFT003 ‘Soon I Will Embark On a Journey’).

  • Tom Vr - Bird Whisperer

I first heard this on Seb Wildblood’s boiler room, which was an upcoming release at the time on his new label All My Thoughts. This led to me to check Tom VR’s (Valby Rotary) other work and it’s all great, as is his podcast for Coastal Haze. Dude has serious taste!

  • Ian Pooley - My Anthem [Hq] (2/3)

Ian Pooley’s ‘My Anthem’ is my anthem. Turns out it’s also one of Moomin’s too after hearing him play this at Sub Club recently, which was incredible on that system. Maybe the most barkin’ coloured vinyl design I’ve ever seen but all part of the charm of this (1995) release.

  • Patrice Scott - Distance Against Time

Probably my favourite Patrice Scott effort and one that finds its way into my sets when the moment strikes, usually to give a bit of space to the set once the crowd feels locked and to bridge the gap between house and (leaning towards) techno.

  • Nuages - Move (Blanc Ep)

Some early French deep house perfection! On my second copy of this now and it’s not coming out the bag for a while (except to play it at home to myself and think about how perfect those pads are).

  • Stenny & Andrea - Sea (The Time Gate)

A total standout on Illian Tape for me. For most of their releases I’d rather be on the other side of the decks to hear it to just go mental, except this utter beaut. Doubt I’ll ever get bored of this and those warm emotive synths.
