In the deep silence of an old house, water began to speak.

It started as a whisper—one drop from the kitchen tap, falling into a steel sink with a hollow plink. Then another. And another. There was no rush, no urgency. Just rhythm. Timeless. Patient.

This was the systematic drip, the noise which would echo through the chamber all night long.

It had been raining for days. The roof, patched but never properly fixed, had finally surrendered.
