Xdb – Influences

Music

Usually when someone compiles a selection of influences for us, we're treated to a selection of high quality music from years gone by that'll have us reminiscing about some of our all time favourite parties. However, XDB has gone a whole lot further than that and has practically given us an insight into his entire life – from video games and films all the way through to house classics. With more than two decades of DJing experience on the front line under his belt, the Metrolux label head honcho dives into his past to have us all wishing we were kids again.

XDB will play alongside Free Rotation founder Steevio (live) for Tender Hooks x First Floor at the newly opened Patterns in Brighton on 8th August.

Dead Or Alive - You Spin Me Right Round (Extended Version)

This was the first ever 7″ record I bought with my pocket money in 1984 when I was 11 years old, and I do still own my copy of course.

  • Captain Future - Theme

The German television showed this Sci-Fi Anime in the ’80s and I loved to watch every episode of it. The German version featured a superb soundtrack by Benjamin Bruhn. Still watching it nowadays together with my 8 year old daughter and it makes me proud that she loves it as much as I did when I was a young kid.

  • Star Wars - Opening Scene (1977) [1080p Hd]

Goosebumps. This movie in its original version is one of my favourite movies ever.

  • C64 Longplay - International Karate

My first computer was the Commodore C64 and I loved its games with the simple but effective gameplay. The music influenced me for sure too. International Karate was one of my favourites.

  • Best Scene From Cobra [1986]

I liked him a lot when I was a kid. Watched nearly all of his movies and my room was full of posters. Should I feel ashamed?

  • Breakin' Turbo Broom Dance

’80s movies and their soundtracks were the bomb and a big influence for sure. I watched Breakin’, for example, several times when I was a kid. Tour de France by Kraftwerk and lots of other goodies were featured in its superb soundtrack.

  • O Superman - Laurie Anderson - As Displayed In The Moma, New York

“O Superman” by Laurie Anderson. Half sung, half spoken. Art.

  • Depeche Mode - Nothing (1987)

One of my favourite electronic music bands and a big influence for sure.

  • Larry Heard A.K.A. Mr. Fingers "Can You Feel It?" ( With Lyrics )

Larry Heard’s music is pure bliss. My ears can’t get enough of his music works.

  • X - Ray - Untitled Track (Transmat Records) 1986

My record shelves are full of it and this is one of those tracks I do really love.
