Vaghe Stelle – 8 Dancefloor Gems You Never Thought Were Danceable

Music

Part of the apparently burgeoning Italian New Wave scene, whatever that may be, Vaghe Stelle is making some mighty fine music that explores the mind-melding parallels between music and Futurism. His new EP takes its name from a hundred-year-old work from futurist artist Giacomo Balla yet it sounds so up-to-the-minute that you'll be certain you've accidentally stepped into the future. Here, he celebrates the beauty of dancing no matter what's tickling your eardrums as we venture down the path of 8 tracks you never thought were danceable.

Abstract Speed + Sound is out soon via Other People.

L.A.S.'S Crime - Pretty Face

This is a proper gem recorded in Florence in 1989. That crazy industrial groove broken by several uplifting emotional breaks can create a surreal atmosphere.

  • Fabio Frizzi - City Of The Living Dead - Apoteosi Del Mistero

It’s taken from the original soundtrack of ‘Paura nella città dei morti viventi (City Of the Living Dead)’. I usually play it in my set to change the atmosphere switching to something more psychedelic and cinematic.

  • Sun Ra - Dance Of The Cosmo Aliens

I think that “Dance With Cosmos Aliens” doesn’t need anything else to describe it.

  • Ariel Kalma - Chase Me Now

This is a proper dance mantra.

  • Lucky Dragons - Open Melody

I think this song can literally hypnotise an entire dancefloor and make it smoothly move and dance to it.

  • Nyra Bakiga - Cor Corora (Long Version)

First time I heard it I felt like I was listening to some early Muslimgauze track, afro-psychedelia and industrial beats mixed at its best.

  • M. Zalla (Piero Umiliani) - Produzione

Piero Umiliani doing electronic music is astonishing, this is just an example of his greatness. I like to play it a little bit slower to let the people catch that killer groove.

  • Tapes Meets The Drums Of Wareika Hill Sounds - Datura Mystic Version

I simply love this one and I play it out every time I can.
