Over The Counter #5: Kristina Records – November ’15

Music

As the temperature drops, the light fades and the shorts are well and truly away, the steady flow of new records keep the morale high as we settle in for the Winter months.

After a successful relaunch of our instore series last month with Scottish star Lord Of The Isles, this week we are looking forward to a very special listening session from coowner of store favourite label Giegling, DJ Dustin. For the occasion, Dustin has opted to treat us to a 'test pressing session', a set full of unreleased and exclusive Giegling material! It’s this Friday, free entry and BYOB, the second in a series of Winter instores where we dim the lights, increase the system and provide the perfect warmup to your Friday evening outings.

Loads of new releases and many favourites this month, from impressive vinyl debuts such as Elzéard and Moana on the local FTD imprint, a much anticipated follow up for Northern Electronics’ Abdulla Rashim, to two equally impressive releases from store family Nummer on Fragil Musique and their own Nummer Music. Our KR Selects segment is back in full swing, you can catch in depth reviews of these records and more, updated weekly.

More records of note include local boy Francis Inferno Orchestra and Fantastic Man’s latest Superconscious release, enlisting promising Swedish duo Mount Liberation Unlimited for three raw, melodic house cuts. Africaine 808 return to Golf Channel with 'Rhythm Is All You Can Dance EP', tribal afro rhythms with hints of acid house of yesteryear. Dutch label Field Records returns with the first EP of a new three part series, this time from Swedish veteran Staffan Linzatti.

Reissues keep rolling in. Music From Memory provide the next release in their 12 inch series, continuing the early 80's electronica with Michal Turtle's 'Are You Psychic?' . One previously unreleased track and one lifted from his holy grail album 'Music From The Living Room', both sound incredibly current, blurring lines between techno, electronica and funk. Arc Light Editions have reissued founder of crazy Finnish band 'The Sperm' Pekka Airaksinen's 'Buddhas Of Golden Light' album, as well as classic Arthur Russell and an Ingram Marshall oddity.

Second hand stock is hitting the racks daily, with new £1 bins up for digging, many forgotten early 80’s funk and soul LP’s going for a fiver. Also, we have been digging ourselves to pull out a load of quality, rare and obscure second finds up for purchase, as well as classics that are compulsory for every collector. These are only available in store so make sure you pay a visit!

More announcements coming soon including our first Dream States party for the new year, don’t miss our next one, a Slow Life showcase with S. Moreira (Live), Laurine, Cecilio, few presale tickets still available here.
