Locked Groove – 8 Tracks

Music

Locked Groove is a rather versatile individual – his unique style sees him incorporate sounds ranging from visceral deep house to Berghain techno whilst maintaing a distinctive signature sound. The 24 year old producer has developed his sound massively since putting his foot on the gas in 2011 and has just released his 'Enigma' EP. Here he presents us with 8 tracks, each one a riddle wrapped inside an enigma.

'Enigma' is out now via Hotflush Recordings.

B1. Morphosis -- Impulse

Morphosis has always been a favourite of mine. I think it fits the enigma theme very well. There’s something about this track that has mystery written all over it.

  • White House White - Overture 1988

This one has been recently re-released on “The Sound Of Belgium'” compilation. Something in between a new wave & a new beat track. It was hard to pick one of their tracks because they’re all great. Check them out!

  • Henri Chopin - La Digestion

It doesn’t come more enigmatic than this. The way a lot of Chopin’s tracks are made is by recording sounds you make with your body & then work with them on tape loops.

  • Indoor Life - Voodoo

Produced by disco god Patrick Cowley, I came across this album a couple of years ago on a yard sale. So ahead of its time & just weird enough.

  • Mattheis - Blablavism (Nous001)

A friend of mine introduced me to this label/artist last week. I’ve been hooked on the entire release ever since. The whole EP reminds me of Border Community stuff in some way, but focused at the dancefloor

  • Monoton | J.S.C.A. | 1982

What is there to say about this? Not much, just that it’s awesome.

  • Legal Eagles - Put Out The Fire Starring Daryl Hannah (1986)

You can find this one on the soundtrack of Legal Eagles. I found it a couple of years ago during Sonar, after a night out I decided to go record shopping. Needless to say, this blew me away after a full night of partying & no sleep.

  • John Cage: In A Landscape (1948)

John Cage but not like most people know him. A fragile piano piece which flows and keeps on flowing. I can listen to this for days. It’s also really interesting because the score has no bars, it’s just one wave of sound.
