Land Of Light – Influences

Music

Ahead of their slot at Bad Passion’s 5th Birthday this weekend , Land of Light, imparted their influences that have had an impact on Land of Light’s sound.

Conceived in 2009 Land of Light was born from Nash and Kyle Martins shared desire to create timeless music without any agenda, pouring their heart and soul into their music whilst meticulously honing their craft in the studio. This project has no preconceived concept aside from the simple and natural flow of their collaboration.

The Blue Nile Flags And Fences

The Blue Nile have been a major influence on us and we are still trying to find some way of finding a contact to Paul Buchanan Sometimes we think that everything we write is just an instrumental track waiting for him to lay down vocals on!

Fans of the Nile probably know how scarce interviews and stuff are, but this is a great 30 minute documentary on their 1990s tour of the US and kind of captures a vibe and era that has been an obsession for a few years now..

  • Gigi Masin And Alesandro Monti Stella Maris

Gigi Masin is probably the most underrated composer / producer around.. .thankfully his beautiful music will soon be reissued on the Dutch label Music For Memory, who put out the equally excellent Leon Lowman LP from earlier this year.

  • Levon Vincent Revs/cost

Massive fans of Levon Vincent. His production values are second to none, his use of reverb and creative effects is so so good. Could pick loads of tracks but Revs/Cost really hits the spot when played extremely loud.

  • Voices From The Lake S/T

We really got into this album by Donato Dozzy and Neel from a few years back the way it unfolds over an hour or so is just magical, and really rewards linear, deep listening.

  • Ymo 1000 Knives

At the peak of their powers with a ridiculous line up including a young Kazumi Watanabe shredding the fuck out of the track on guitar.

  • Der Rauber Und Der Prinz Der Elektrische Reiter

Ralf Beck is our hero and had a big influence on us in terms of his approach to making music and creativity in the studio Here is a track he did a few years ago as Der Rauber und Der Prinz

  • Plastikman - Pakard

Massive fans of this era Plastikman stuff So considered and precise in its execution.

  • Black Merlin - Salute To The Light

Our good friend George Thompson aka Black Merlin need a mention in this list currently on fire and releasing on loads of labels This track from Mike Simonettis New Jersey label is a fave.

  • Michael Ozone - Perfect Systems

Great video from Michael ozone.. Loved this release on ESP..
