Kai Alce – Influences

Music

With the ability to turn his hand to soulful delights or big time dancefloor bangers, Kai Alcé is a bit of a dab hand at the art of production. Though he may not be one of the most well-known names in the business, few can deny his incredible ability and you'd be foolish not to at least consider spending your Saturday night in his company when he heads to London this weekend for the Secretsundaze Summer Closing Party.

Before he gets behind the decks, Kai tells us about some of the sounds that inspire him the most – he also gave us a little information about why he does what he does;

"Above all else I got the most inspiration from hearing some of the worst tracks ever by some who should be doin better or shouldn't be doin it all! Just let me know I gotta get in the game! HA!"

Unfortunately one of the tracks that Kai picked for us isn't available online (disappointed faces all round) but we thought we'd let you know what he had to say about it anyway as it's such a beauty;

Derrick May – The Darkside

"Although known by many different names this track was a favourite at the infamous Music Institute club in Detroit. Derrick rarely dropped this track on us but when he did it was straight from tape."

Kai Alce plays for Secretsundaze on September 26th at Village Underground, find out more here.

Gregory Porter - 1960 What?

This tune just means so much, the words and situation portrayed in this song still haunts us today in American society. Definitely a song that I will remember. And my nephews like it too, so… Also lookout for a remix of On ‘My Way To Harlem’ coming soon from yours truly. Grateful…

  • Dewayne Davis - It Shows (Theo Parrish Dub Mix)

    This track remix was so simplistic yet effective, it totally inspired me to get my production game on.

  • Chez Damier - Close

    Came out during a time of big room songs and totally broke that mould for that moment.

  • Axus - Abacus (When I Fall In Love)

    Another great song that came out around the same time of Chez’s “Close”, a reminder of what we needed in songs.

  • 808 State - Pacific State

    I remember buying all the different versions and takes of this brilliant track!

  • Atmosfear - Dancing In Outer Space

    One my first classics that I learned of, I remember being on the hunt for it after hearing it at the Shelter in the early 90’s. I was totally that customer going into stores doing a horrible humming rendition of it until I found it.

  • Fertile Ground - Live In The Light

    One of many favorites from this band – other close ones are ‘Broken Wings’, ‘Let The Wind Blow’ & ‘Take Me Higher’.

  • Vinx - Temporary Love

    An Electrifying Mojo Classic.
