Influences: Steve Bicknell

Music

London club Lost was one of the first and most influential techno clubs of the 1990s, featuring early gigs from the likes of Richie Hawtin, and rare UK appearances (for the time) of others including Juan Atkins, Derrick May, Dan Curtin, Daniel Bell and Stacey Pullen. Steve Bicknell was one of the founders of Lost, and over the past 25 years has appeared on labels such as Novamute, Tresor and FatCat. After producing his 'Lost Recordings' series on his own Cosmic Records he is now embarking on a third label, 6dimensions. The label intends to be a platform for music, installations, events and visual performance and with his debut EP due shortly, he shares with us a selection of his influences.

Steve Bicknell – Modes Of Thought is due soon and can be pre-ordered HERE.

Lonnie Liston Smith / Devika (Goddess)

A bromance kind of funk; a poetry kind of rebel. Poly-affectionate 70s sound, fluidly towards sentiments.

  • Lonnie Liston Smith / Devika (Goddess)

A bromance kind of funk; a poetry kind of rebel. Poly-affectionate 70s sound, fluidly towards sentiments.

  • Sun Ra - Friendly Galaxy

Lightly boiling depth of melody. By digging into ritual, instruments that belong to the earth; the earth belongs to the sound of the universe.

  • The Doors - An American Prayer (Full Album,1978)

A Storie teller while a rhythm philosopher. Indeed a gentle teaser.

  • Philip Glass - Music In Twelve Parts - Disc 1 (Hq)

Organs, flutes, saxophones and a female, mediate on minimal euphonious concords.

  • John Cage | Sonatas And Interludes (Thomas Nicholson)

Through the lens of dualism, reading the world as if microscopic intuitionism
*John Cage developed most of his sound through I-Ching which is an important and the oldest dualism in the world. This recording is very much an intuition of oneself as well as a very experimental vibe.

  • Pink Floyd - The Great Gig In The Sky (Vinyl Rip / Lp / Audio-Technica At95e)

Space gospel, worship the other side that shimmer no more.
*Sun shine bright, moon shimmer white. 🙂

  • Miles Davis - Kind Of Blue - 1959 (Complete Album)

If placebo was ever blue, perhaps he won’t be the freeloader that plays with mood.
*Freddie freeloader is one of the tracks on the album. I thought it sounds a bit
    melancholy.

  • Can - Paperhouse 1971 (Tago Mago)

    Left-field 70s mushroom rave.

  • The Specials - Full Album

Happy men harvesting moments with reggae pace.

  • Scientist - The Voodoo Curse

Absolute dub, via delay scene and reverb tint. Imaginary Jamaican phenomena.
