INFLUENCES – SERGIE REZZA (DJ DEEP & ROMAN PONCET)

Music

Sergie Rezza is the joining of forces between DJ Deep and Roman Poncet. Having welcomed solo works showcased on labels such as Tresor, Desire Records and Deeply Rooted Sergie Rezza was born after finding a "magical click" with one another during numerous studio sessions, something perfectly demonstrated on their debut self-titled LP set for a digital release on 13th November via Desire Records

Talk about mixing styles and the art of producing! Eddy Grant has been an amazing source of inspiration and we spent quite a lot of time digging through his music, his various aliases and groups etc…

  • Cabaret Voltaire "Automotivation"

While preparing the concept of Sergie Rezza we have been listening to a lot of Cabaret Voltaire, (and specifically this song) and quite a bit of new wave, post-punk etc… It’s a bit honour for us that they accepted to license the sample of “Sluggin’ fer Jesus” for one of the album tracks.

  • Fela Kuti "Eko Ile"

Fela is a big inspiration of course, and always [will|, but many other musicians from North and South Africa have been influencing our ideas and desires to mix styles on this album.

  • Jon Hassell "The Surgeon Of The Nightsky Restores Dead Things By The Power Of Sound"

We somehow always come back to the very unique vibe of this era, how world music met ambient in the 80’s without things being too defined.

  • Peter Gabriel "15 Passion"

We’re huge fans of Peter Gabriel! :The way he directed this soundtrack is still mindblowing for us to this day.

  • Henri Texier - Amir

We have been digging quite a lot into French Jazz experimentations of the 70’s for preparing this album and this song definitely touched us a lot.

  • Beatriz Ferreyra "Demeures Aquatiques"

We really felt connected to a lot of those GRM re-issues. We knew some of the originals but a lot of them, including this one, came as an absolute revelation. How titles and music matches, how Beatriz Ferreyra is bringing poetry to sounds or making sounds carry feelings was a true source of inspiration. To think this piece was produced in 1967 is simply mind-blowing.

  • Bfc Aka Carl Craig "Galaxy"

Such a timeless track. It was definitely a reference for us on how to mix the deep dark almost new wave influenced chords with funky drums.

  • James Brown "Super Bad"

Even though the album is a lot about sound textures and explorations we hope it still has soul and funky moments! This track was the soundtrack to many coffee pauses during our studio sessions.

  • Kaidi Tatham & Dego - Got Me Puzzled (Feat. Face)

A song that we also always come back to by two fantastic producers, Dego and Kaidi Tatham. Amazing drum programming, beautiful arrangements, a mix of something that seems simple but yet very subtle.
