Last week saw the release of "Space In Your Mind", Sei A's third LP signed to Aus music. The Glaswegian has had a busy spell since 2010, releasing music on labels such as Hemlock, Turbo, Kompakt and Aus. His take on electronic music has seen him channel his energies in a non linear fashion, exploring the limits of house and techno and its position in nightlife. We caught up with him to talk influences…

Aphex Twin - Xtal

I remember being abroad with a group of friends, must’ve been around 1999 or 2000. We ended up in the middle of a storm and most of the group headed out, apart from myself and a mate who stayed in and listened to this album. Watching the storm and listening to this – It always takes me back to that precise moment. Xtal into Tha…

  • Talk Talk - New Grass

Talk Talk Laughing Stock album and also Spirit Of Eden are up there with some of my favourite pieces of music.

  • Paul Buchanan - Mid Air

I went to see Paul Buchanan’s Blue Nile in Glasgow years ago with an old friend and at the time was my Publisher. Not long after that my friend sadly passed away. I revisited the Blue Nile albums with a fond a memory of my friend but later discovering Paul Buchanan, Mid Air being his first solo album.

  • Radiohead - Knives Out

Radiohead were always a big part of what I listened to when I was growing up. All their albums have meant something to me some shape or form. Kid A and Amnesiac, probably the lesser-famed albums being some of my favourites.

  • Carl Craig - At Les

Been a massive fan of this guy for years. I remember Gilles Peterson did an interview with CC I think around 2006. Classic and in-depth which was hugely inspiring.

  • Dj Koze - All The Time

Think this was my first introduction to Koze. I was in Paris DJ’ing with Jef K when I was signed to his Silver Network label. I remember he had this on promo and played it that night. Since then Koze is up there as one my favourite producers.

  • William Basinski - D|P 1.1

This definitely placed my musical tastes into a new perspective. I was completely fixated with the sound and how I felt after it had finished. Hugely inspiring on so many levels for me. Quite a haunting story behind of how and when it was produced. This music moved me onto listening to Stars Of The Lid, which gave me the same feeling after listening.

  • Mogwai - 2 Rights Make 1 Wrong

Probably my favourite Mogwai song. When the 6-minute mark comes in with the ukulele, amazing. The song also reminds me of one of my closest mates.

  • Herbert - The Audience

I would listen to this album on repeat. And to think it was released on!K7 and now my new album is amongst all of that…

  • A Tribe Called Quest - Excursions

All the albums would be on repeat when I was younger going to College in Glasgow. Takes me back to when music started to become something of greater significance and I started producing.
