Influences: Pär Grindvik

There’re a few releases in my collection that I have multiple copies of and the soundtrack from Breakdance the movie is one of them. I had this thing that I had to buy it if I found it and I probably still have at least 10 left. While my older brothers played the hits from this record I discovered electro through Chris “The Glove” Taylor and ICE T’s “Reckless”.

LPC or Lucky People Center was a Swedish collective in the mid 90’s that combined music and visuals in a amazing way, both in their music videos and live. In 1994 they performed in the centre of Stockholm, a concert which achieved cult status and one that belongs in my top 10 concert experiences. They made me feel that it’s possible to reach out widely with electronic music in a way that few other Swedish acts did at the time.

I’ve answered quite a few questions regarding music which has inspired me over the years and one artist that keeps popping into my head is Caspar Pund so I felt that I needed to include one track from him. So dive in!

The combination of Aphex track ‘On’ and Jarvis imagery is hard to beat! For me this era of Warp and the videos that Jarvis contributed is the REAL deal! Therefore I had to include Nightmares on Wax’s “Aftermath” too 🙂

When Björk released Debut and took over, the UK scene was something that really effected me in a big way. Coming from Iceland, getting under the skin and gaining control of the male-dominated world of electronic music. I have no clue what she did or how things ended up the way they did but for me she made magic and fused just the right things at the right time. A huge inspiration!

More music and visual perfection, few artists manage to keep on inspiring as much as miss Grace Jones! I get so inspired by how she uses herself as a palette for her creativity! Her “One Man Show” together with Talking Head’s “Stop Making Sense” are my favourite concert videos and “I’ve Seen That Face Before” is such a beauty.

Jam puts words to the most obvious things in life in such a beautiful way! Things that most of us might take for granted, including myself. I keep returning to All Love Is Legal over and over again while traveling and I can’t help thinking, world, it should be this easy to understand!

’95 / ’96, at this point in my life techno was pretty much everything to me, and around about that time was also when its colour changed for me. From being something really colourful to something darker and more melancholic. This Jeff mix is legendary in so many ways but for me it kind of set the tone for what’s really techno.

Even thought Landcruising came in 95 and More Songs in 97 they belong together for me. Where Jeff gave me a blueprint for techno, Carl thought me that there’re no real rules, just feelings. I saw him perform ‘At Les’ at a festival in Sweden when he was on the More Songs tour together with a bass player and a drummer. I can still remember hearing that hook slowly taking over the tent.
