Influences: Ibibio Sound Machine

Welcome to the wonderful world of Ibibio Sound Machine, a clash of influences blending genres, styles, sounds, culture, heritage, colour and everything in between. The group are fronted by Nigerian singer Eno Williams but features percussionists, synth artists, sax, trumpet and guitists. They pack a whole lot of soul and energy into their performances and seem to have stumbled upon a sound which finds itself at home on the best of dance floors. We talk influences with Ibibio Sound Machine…
Ibibio Sound Machine are playing at the Soundcrash Funk & Soul Weekender HERE.
I remember William Onyeabor from when I was growing up in Nigeria. We used to hear his music in the marketplace and I recall it seemed
so futuristic at the time. It was bizarre when he was kind of re-discovered in the US and Europe recently! He’s definitely a left-of-centre Nigerian artist that’s been very influential.
