Influences: Hannah Holland

Music

Hannah Holland's interest in Electronic music has been well learned over many years. At age 14 she was sneaking in to Metalheadz club nights and from thereafter threw herself into the nightlife scene. In the present she is now a well respected DJ and producer in her own right: she has produced and remixed for the likes of DJ Hell and The Knife and has played sets at clubs and festivals around the world. In 2006 she founded a label, Batty Bass, alongside long time friend and collaborator Mama and since then they have released music from Josh Caffe, Daniel Avery and more. Her sets are colourful and intriguing. Here are Hannah Holland's influences…

Green Velvet - Shake & Pop

Early 2000’s and Shoreditch was underground and buzzing. I started my residency at the ever road blocked Trailer Trash, which was the proper start to my DJ career. Velvet and Cajmere are always a source of production inspiration. It was always a classic at the club.

  • Paris Is Burning

My great mate and drag artist, Jonny Woo, gave me a copy of this. One of the best documentaries ever made and just an incredibly inspiring, beautiful scene, full of a defiant talented marginalised people. Queer underground deep heritage. And pure New York. Fantastic soundtrack, full of proto house / disco crossover.

  • The Carry Nation - This Bitch Is Alive Ft. Viva Ruiz

I was lucky enough to sign this to Batty Bass. The Carry boys took me under their wing in New York and turned me out, showed me some real deal underground shit. It totally slapped me in the face and gave me a whole new energy. Eternally grateful to them for that.

  • Nyc Downlow At Glastonbury 2015

Definitely in my top 3 clubs i’ve ever been too and had the pleasure of playing at. 5 days of disco, house and techno heaven at Glastonbury’s wildest party, on the outskirts of the festival. The troupe of incredible drag performers / dancers from London are always fabulous.

  • Steffi - Db011

This represents my move to Berlin for a few years around 2009. Spent some incredible times in Berghain, which definitely influenced the way I played, finding my groove and introduction to some awesome DJs. Steffi being one of them.

  • Esg - Erase You

As a teenager i played bass for a band, E.S.G. were a great inspiration and saw them live a few times, fierce and fun. Still love them to bits.

  • The Punk Rock Movie Trailer

Ever since i was at primary school i was drawing pictures of punks, they really fascinated me. The whole DIY culture was a huge influence and still is. I also love the fuse of the Dub Reggae culture that Don Lett’s bought into the mix, a true London hybrid. I’m very proud to have grown up in London with such a melting pot of sounds and ideas.

  • Lfo - Lfo [Leeds Warehouse Mix]

Introduced to me by some older DJ friends, i loved the Warp sound, raw rave, felt i was taping into this magical, bygone era, of UK heritage.

  • Felix Da Housecat - Silver Screen Shower Scene (Thin White Duke Remix)

I was working as a runner on music videos and this amazing director that i worked for, Dawn, was playing this album on a shoot. I was like WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT? She then took me to the club Body Rockers, which to this day, was still one of the best clubs I’ve ever been too and it changed everything for me. I then bought a pair of decks and started to collect records. I was about 19. It was a really exciting
time in London and before the internet, i think electroclash was the last sub culture.
that was allowed to happen in a traditional sense.
