Asok – 8 Tracks For Dark Tunnels

Music

There's no better way to travel through the mountains than via a tunnel – though you might get some better views if you're climbing, there's much more work to be done and you can't exactly sit back and listen to a selection of top sounds. For those of you that are also keen on the tunnel route, ASOK has put together a selection of aural pleasures that will suit any mountain-tunnelling needs you might have. The Liverpudlian producer has 20 years of record collecting and almost 15 years of DJing under his belt so he knows a thing or two about music – he's also got a new EP called Count Zero dropping soon via Mistress Recordings. Here's what he has to say about his lovely selections, which you can cycle through by using the tabs to the left of the current video;

"Tracks for dark tunnels through mountains? Maybe. Do those tunnels lead into another dimension or are they artificial tunnels you created in your mind allowing the music to travel through? I don’t know. Whichever it is, these tracks will assist you on your journey."

See ASOK at Berlin's Panorama Bar on Saturday 26th September and at The Garage in Liverpool on Friday 2nd October.

Dresvn - Millions Of Trees

Journey number 1. A track that constantly warps and changes over time with stuttering beats and off time pads. It’s great. Could also be used for driving over very long bridges.

  • Rufige Kru - Dark Metal (Source Direct Remix)

Journey 2. Every time that bass drops, that’s another segment of the tunnel you have passed through. As this is dark and driving, gotta be one for Swiss Alp-sized tunnels.

  • Deep Space Orchestra- Mass Illusion

Journey 3. The train tunnel this one. When that train’s crawling through and you see brief flickers of light, but you know there’s all sorts of shit going on through the window.

  • L.B. Dub Corp - No Trouble In Paradise

Journey 4. Never has a track summed up a journey better than this one. Close your eyes and you can actually see the light of the tunnel approaching.

  • Truncate - Control V1

Journey 5. Industrial tunnels. Connecting machines to…other machines. Also containing truncates pulsating beats (this is his best track IMO).

  • Boymerang - Still

Journey 6. Boomerang absolutely nails the journey into the mines on Mars with this stunning piece of drum and bass sci-fi.

  • Sweet Exorcist - Per Clonk

Journey 7. This is the descent into a limestone cave, dark around you but also dripping water and crystals and all sorts of crazy translucent white vampires.

  • Koehler - Spiral Light

Journey 8 . The tunnel escape. Not necessarily the track for a tunnel, but the sound you would hear as the huge explosion from behind hit you and you travel up the heavens. Unless you are Will Smith’s dog, in which case you’d be OK.
