8 Tracks: Of Scotch Mist With Facta

Music

The latest Facta record has just been announced on Bloc and is sounding strong as ever. It is accompanied by a remix by Beneath and is expected to land on the 2nd of May. This is Facta's debut outing on the Bloc label and is inspired by bleep techno, hence his selections. We caught up with him to talk eight tracks. Here are his selections…

Unique 3 - The Theme

This came out in 1989, but (vocal aside) it sounds like it could have easily come out this year amongst the slew of jungle-referencing techno records that have been flying around recently.

  • Sweet Exorcist - Clonks Coming

All-out dancefloor weirdness. Can imagine this doing damage back in the day like Coki tunes did damage in 2006.

  • Stress - Forgemasters

Nice healthy hit of UK paranoia before that super wonky rave riff kicks in. So tough.

  • Ubik - Non Stop Techno

Sound like Loefah making hardcore. Right on.

  • S-Max / Fym - Blooom (Scd020)

Delia Derbyshire dropped a gurner on this one.

  • Minor Science - Glamour

Perfect example of bleep-referencing new-school gear. Easily one of my favourite tracks of 2015.

  • Andy Stott - Fine Metallic Dollar

A bit of a departure from the brief – more paired back, minimal and dubbed out – but still with heavy subs and a space-age melody. Hypnotic stuff.

  • Facta - Scotch Mist

Weirdly enough, I made this tune a few years ago before I’d heard a lot of the earlier records on this list. So when I finally came across them it felt like finding a bunch of old forgotten friends. It’s cool to hear how these influences inadvertently crept into my music via the grime, dubstep and garage records I grew up on.
