8 Tracks For Deep Space Travel – Posthuman

Music

Posthuman have rapidly become our favourite 303 botherers. Last month saw the release of their 'Decompression EP'; as fine a synthesis of squelchy old school acid menace and modern production depth as we've heard all year. We jumped at the chance to badger them into picking out 8 tracks for us – and  with all that cosmic acid power, we thought we'd ask em for some sounds to accompany a trip into deep space – Richard Branson take note, they've got the Virgin Galactic playlist locked…

Floppy Sounds - Ultrasong (Francois K Studio B Mix)

I first heard this when my older brother bought it back in ’95. The voice sample is from ‘Planet of the Apes’
A lot of my early musical education was down to going through his record collection, trying to mix on cheap decks without pitch control…

  • Pachanga Boys - Time

First out on a limited vinyl only release, 300 copies with a little fingertrap toy…it had been out for a while when suddenly it went viral on youtube, one video picking up over half a million plays. The label eventually relented to the popularity & demand, and then released it digitally (personally I think they should have kept it vinyl only but that’s just my opinion). clocking in at 14 minutes, it really is piece to lose your sense of time to…

  • B12 - Solitude

I met the B12 guys in about 2004, they had been out of the scene for a few years, but after a bunch of bootlegs of their first releases surfaced, the guys decided to start gigging & writing again, and re-boot the label – I worked for them for a bit on the first few releases and we did a bunch of gigs together. This was my favourite track from that period.

  • Biosphere [Baby Satellite]

Microgravity is one of the less recognised, but ultimately incredibly important albums of the early 90’s. Along with B12’s Electro-Soma this felt like Europe’s answer to Detroit Techno. Over 20 years later and this still sounds like the future to me.

  • Djedjotronic - "Abyssal Zone" (Official Video)

When I first heard this I nearly fell out of my chair. Menacing, malevolent, dark electro. Music for black holes, the decompression of the soul.

  • Mysterious Semblance At The Strand Of Nightmares

My dad had this on vinyl, it was one of the first electronic pieces I really fell in love with. Incredible ambient synthesizer music from 1973 – nebulaic & terrifying.

  • Ceephax Acid Crew - Capsule In Space (Buy At Http://Ceephax.Bandcamp.Com/)

James Bond themes in space. What else do you need?

  • Posthuman - In Apophenia

Set to 2001: A Space Odyssey – this was a vinyl-only release (no digital!) on Horn Wax in late 2012, and is currently being remixed by Pixelife for release on an upcoming compilation…
