8 Tracks – Crazy P

Music

For the last 15 years, Crazy P have been leaving their mark on the landscape of British dance music since 1996, when they signed to their first label, Paper Recordings. Equally at home on huge outdoor festival stages in Australia or basement sweatboxes in East London, Crazy P have made their name with a unerring combination of lushly structured songs and live power, whilst never forgetting their roots on the dance floors of the late 90s house, disco, and soul clubs. In an era of, lets face it, convenience, disposability, MP3s, and the Beatport Top 10, the fact that Crazy P still exist is somewhat reassuring.

In lieu of their latest album ‘MTS Vol. 2’, released on Futureboogie Recordings, Crazy P have bestowed upon us the influences that have formed their unforgettable sound.

Prince - If I Was Your Girlfriend

First up is Prince’s ‘If I Was Your Girlfriend’. Now it could have been any one of a number of his songs but this one is taken from his Sign of The Times our of which I bought the dvd and which is amazing! Prince cannot put a foot wrong. His unique ability to not only play every instrument but also his lyrical genius and incredible dance moves make him the ultimate performer. I wanted to be one of his ladies; Cat, Sheila E, Apollonia… Many a time in my teens I imagined I was!

  • Moodymann - I Can't Kick This Feelin When It Hits

Moodyman has had a massive influence on the way we have looked at production and composition. Jim and Chris saw DJ Harvey play at The Sky Club in Nottingham and heard him play this track and had not heard anything quite like it before. Moodyman continues to make unique deep sensual relentless hypnotic music. Forevermore!

  • The Cure - Lovesong

This band have affected us all in some way or another. Whether its been comforting teenage traumas experimenting with hairspray or just wanting to be different, we all feel the same. The Cure write the most beautiful rich melancholy music and lyrically wondrously simple.

  • Paul Anka - Lovecats

Well this gives us another excuse to play a Cure song. Paul Anka covered a number of “pop songs” including Wonderwall by Oasis and Jump Van Halen. His music became a staple back drop to many a road journey. With his beautifully orchestrated music and lush sounding vocalists, its a soothing yet stimulating soundtrack. And quite often culminates with a good old sing song!

  • Paul Shane - You've Lost That Loving Feeling

Now this is a bit of a curve ball but it has provided endless hours of giggles and amusement. Sometimes when you’ve spent a week in the studio , late nights and exhausted all personal humour, its good to have a blast of this… Pebble Mill at One the host. A pure vocal assault – and fashion disaster.

  • Bill Withers - Make A Smile For Me

It would be impossible to leave this track out . It is one of the most beautiful simple sweet pieces of music and Bill WIthers vocals as always glide unimposing over lush strings. Its as simple as it gets whilst having reduced us to tears. What an incredibly inspiring musician.

  • War And Eric Burden - Spirit

War and Eric Burden-Spirit. War have been favourites of the lads in the band for…well ever! They went en mass to see them in London a few years back now and were left buzzing and totally inspired. Incredible masters of all things instrumental and with tracks like Galaxy vocal harmonies to die for!

  • Sylvester - Over And Over

Disco heaven! Hammered this tune from Tel Aviv to Edinburgh! Authentic stuff, powerful, uplifting, and a beautiful sentiment throughout. A greta end of the night tune …awful to try and mix with as the tempo jumps all over the place-but theres live music for you and well worth the pain! The track also includes background noise taken from a live audience…which in turn makes people in the audience whistle a yelp. A sure fire winner!
