8 Tracks – Applescal

Music

Dutch producer Applescal has been exploring layered beats and hypnotic trance-like rhythms in search of creating a sound that will blow you away within an instant. He has combined with graphic designer Hessel Stuut on his latest EP – 'Mirage’. We asked Applescal to give us a selection of songs that have helped impact the sound of the album. Here's a little more information on the selection from the man himself;

"This is a small collection of tracks that inspired me to make the ‘Mirage’ EP. The tracks are very different and most of them are not even close to how the new EP sounds. But that’s the great thing about music. Some small details (from any genre) could inspire; that’s what these tracks did. Some I just listened to over and over and gave me a good feeling inside. Some are more technical and gave me ideas to try different techniques."

Applescal's 'Mirage' EP is out now via Atomnation. For more information on Applescal, see his official website.

Bob Moses - Far From The Tree (Original Mix)

This is how music should be done. I love the way the vocals are used in this track. One of my favourite songs of 2014 so far.

  • Bob Moses - Far From The Tree (Original Mix)

This is how music should be done. I love the way the vocals are used in this track. One of my favourite songs of 2014 so far.

  • Koett - Behind

This track is recorded with the Polyvox, an old “Sovjet Synth”. This bass is as fat as Russian military machinery. The guitar samples on top give this track a great vibe.

  • David August - Forgive Me If I Bleed

In my opinion this is the best electronica producer around right now. ‘Forgive Me If I Bleed’ is one of his standout tracks of his album ‘Times’. The second part of the track when the melody comes in is so good, especially as the beginning of this track is so sober, which gives the melody such an uplifting mood.

  • Groundislava - Creeper Shit

The title says it all. Video is funny too.

  • David Douglas - Moon Observations Live Bij 3voor12 Radio

Such variety and details. The title song of David Douglas’ debut album.

  • Long Arm - Sleepsafe (Feat. I.V.A. & Ruslan Gadzhimuradov) - Free Download

This guy lost all his music with a hard drive crash. He almost had his album done. This is all that’s left.

  • Gidge - For Seoul Part Ii

Taken from the debut EP by the Nordic duo. When I discovered this music I thought everything was sampled. But it’s not.

  • Ngly - Service Cost Hh2

Love this deep vibe. It just keeps on going.
