The Australian producer and DJ has big ambitions and big tunes to match.

Earlier this month Public Possession teased the upcoming release of a second album from Nice Girl – a producer with whom they have worked closely in recent years and supported through the release of records.

Taking the jump and releasing albums as an artist is no small feat – it’s a leap of faith and one which demonstrates ambition and drive towards a musical future.

Public Possession is the perfect home for the record, playful music deserves a playful home.

Ahead of the release we asked Nice Girl to deliver a mix which reflects her present headspace and drive as an artist. The result is a wild ride which demonstrates her prowess as a DJ as much as it does anything else. We reckon that you’ll enjoy this one, we certainly did.

Listen and read the interview below:

Please introduce yourself… Who are you, where are you and what are you?

I’m Ruby/Nice Girl.. I am in Bali right now. I make music and dj

You’ve just recorded a new album for Public Possession, what inspired that?

Music piling up. Nice to finish things. New ideas.

What does your music sound like? Can you draw what you think it sounds like for us (an image from the old internet is acceptable)?

Where was the mix recorded?

In Bali on my laptop in the shade.

What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?

Wherever you want to.

What should we be wearing?

Whatever you like.

What would be your dream setting to record a mix: Location/system/format?

Somewhere quiet and isolated.

Which track in the mix is your current favourite?

Maryyyx2 – brandy (remix)

What’s your favourite recorded mix of all time?

Anything by physical therapy or swoozy dolphin.

If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?

My friend Eden Burns because I like spending time with him.

What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?

I had some pioneer cdjs. 1000s I think. I lugged them around for a while because I kept moving.
Now I have a turntable gathering dust and no space for anything else.

What’s more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?

Both. The wrong song puts me in a bad mood. I think the crowd too?

What were the first and last records you bought?

I can’t remember my first. My last was Archetype. A few years ago. It never arrived and the person didn’t return my money. It was expensive and I haven’t bought records since. Haha

If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?

Probably lollies. The red flavour.

If it was an animal what would it be?

Something cute.

One record in your collection that is impossible to mix into anything?

Too many!

Upcoming in the world of…

I am on my way to europe. yay

Anything else we need to discuss?

Let me think…
