Squarepusher
Channelling the skintight spirit of lascivious 80s P Funk, Cryptic Motion is a slinking chubby of fat slap bass, Roger Troutman vocoder and jerking snare cracks. There are none of the knowing brainiac percussive clatters of previous Squarepusher output, instead this is a smoothed down straight edged journey into soul, and as tradational a pusher track as Ive ever heard. This turns out to be no bad thing- imagine Red Hot Car without the mutant 2 step and youre pretty much there. Maybe the mans getting old and reminiscing a youth body popping to Street Sounds LPs, maybe hes just been digging the nu skool jerry curled groove of Dam Funk, whatever, this is a lush slice of electro love.
