ABSOLUT DALSTON celebrates Dalston with Land of Kings and Saam Farahmand
April 2011, London, a collaboration with internationally renowned director, Saam Farahmand at multi-venue music and art festival, Land of Kings.
On the 28th April at The Arcola, Saam will invite festival goers to become part of a groundbreaking interactive installation using video portraits. Participants will be invited to have their portraits filmed whilst dancing to their favourite track. The following night, these portraits and their subjects become an integral part of the party, projected around the dancehall and mixed live by legends, 2ManyDjs, who will join Saam to create a thrilling live art experience at Magnolia Banqueting Suite.
In the lead up to the festival, Dalstonites will be given a taste of whats to come as Saam projects video portraits of local heroes on buildings throughout the area.
Farahmand has created memorable music videos for the likes of Janet Jackson, Simian Mobile Disco and Klaxons, as well as groundbreaking installations, for The XX and late designer, Alexander McQueen. With Video Portraits, Farahmand brings together music, art, dance and film to create a truly arresting and involving piece of work, which is something between an art installation and a user-generated-party.
Farahmand explained, So far, this project has captured the spirit of the people in my world who inspire me, but I think Video-Portraits could exist anywhere, with any group of people. It could be completely user generated. People in any country will be able to throw their own parties in their own towns. ABSOLUT DALSTON is our celebration of Dalston. Its the first time we are showing people how these parties can happen anywhere, and our intention is for these parties to continue.”
The Land of Kings is Dalston’s home-grown festival, which brings together the areas finest Djs, musicians, collectives and presents them in both the well-known and secret bars, halls, theatres and social clubs that Dalston has become famous for. A wristband provides access to both days of the festival, which will include a lineup of basement parties, live music, theatre pop-ups and cutting edge art installations. ABSOLUT drinks will be available throughout the festival
