R&S Set To Release Brooding Hip Hop Album From Blue Daisy
In what we're pretty sure is a first for the label, R&S Records are set to release a hip hop album – even if it isn't hip hop quite as you know it. Darker Than Blue is the sophomore record from Londoner Blue Daisy. As you might imagine with an R&S signing, Blue Daisy isn't afraid to experiment, pushing his sound into freakish new forms that call to mind the avant garde darkness found on the Def Jux label, or the brooding paranoia of Tricky's early work. As it happens, Blue Daisy was called in for production duties on Tricky's last album; the artists share a sound palette that nods to psyche rock sprawl as much as ominous, sludgy breakbeats, and the younger artist feel like a natural successor to the trip hop pioneer.
With the album, set to drop in October, Blue Daisy is performing tracks from the record at a free show, taking place at Birthdays, Dalston on Wednesday 23rd. More details on the show can be found here. In the mean time, check out the album trailer below.
