Rossi B & Luca
Its been too long since these ears have heard any proper low down East London gutter music. Thank God for this slice of filth from Rinse FMs Rossi B & Luca… Taking the soca drum patterns beloved of funky and pairing them with the hectic video game bleeps, whirs and cataclysmic snares of classic grime, this is an amazing reminder of how vital the form can sound. Completely eschewing the trance rap lite being peddled by Tinchy and, recently, Skepta, this is a straight-for-the-jugular pared back street banger, unapologetically aggressive, proudly underground and totally hectic. This is where punk music ended up, the sounds of a hostile city tearing at itself distilled onto wax. Killa P rides the track on the flip with the Police Ar Come Run vocal jacking up the paranoia to club battering levels. Superb.
