Mr Marc D – Uh Huh
Texas has produced some of the deepest, crunkest, straight up speaker shredding-est hip hop of the noughties. While Atlanta got the plaudits courtesy of Lil Jons spearheading the crunk movement, Texans were developing the psychedelically fucked up screw music, best listened to whilst off your face on cough medicine. On Uh Huh, Texan son Marc D must have been laying off the drank, cos the beat, the bass and the ratchet techno synth stabs are pure bouncing club fire, pulling off that trick peculiar to Southern Rap of simultaneously being landmass slow and fast as the future. My speakers looked terrified when I put this on, and rightly so, its a monster- and easily single of the week for me.
