One of the most controversial incidents of recent history, the killing of Mark Duggan at the hands of the police that led to the riots across the UK in the Summer of 2011, was this afternoon ruled to be lawful.
Two and a half years after the fact, the Inquest into his death today concluded that Mark Duggan was killed lawfully, although he wasn’t holding a firearm at the time of his death. Duggan’s family have reacted furiously and the verdict is sure to spark serious debate on the conduct of the police for some time to come.
