Lucy Stroboscopic

SA as a label is gaining momentum with every release. Lucy’s recent album has been described by many as true Masterpiece of sound design. These are exciting times for Stroboscopic and the ever evolving sound of Techno.

Ahead of their first ever label showcase London party throwers Ear To Ground caught up with Lucy for R$N to hear about his SA label and their upcoming London showcase featuring Lucy, Jonas Kopp, Xhin, Truss, their own VJ crew..

Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to answer these questions. Where in the world are you right now?
Berlin, in Tempelhof district more precisely, Ive just moved into a new studio and its having a great impact on my production.

SA has become a great success. What was the idea behind it all?
Heres our story and were sticking to it:
SA showcases adventures into electronic music from artists across the world. The label, as the name suggests, acts like a strobe light illuminating pioneering club sounds with each release. Stroboscopic Artefacts borrows the curiosity of a scientist to search the underground scene for the freshest and deepest techno.

Can you explain the sound of SA. Artists signed seem to push their musical boundaries a lot more, for example Jonas Kopp and Pfirter. Is there an overall ethos?
SA certainly has a strong identity but were working with an SA approach rather than trying to create an SA sound. One of the main things is that we try, where possible, to sign artists rather than single tracks. So youre right artists like Pfirter or Jonas Kopp are free to explore totally new sound identities when they produce material for SA

Can you tell us about your relationship with your design team Oblivious Artefacts.
Weve worked with Oblivious Artefacts from the very beginning of the label. Its an artists collective who look after our visual identity and design everything from the artwork to the website aesthetic. As a collective we work together on audio-visual projects and I am the resident sound designer. Theyll be at the party turning Corsica into a monochrome landscape of sinister organic forms.

What do we have to look forward to from yourself and SA in 2011.
The most significant development is that we are starting to release albums this year. My own album Wordplay For Working Bees is the first chapter. Also, watch out for the next 12s and a new wave of the Monad Series this summer. Not to mention us putting the cherry on the top of the Sampler Series, with an exceptional remix edition.

Are you looking forward to the UKs first SA Showcase? Do you have a message for your fans?
I cant wait to meet the crowd at Corsica Studios, were really excited to hold our first UK showcase there. Strobolovers, get ready. See you on 2nd April.

Stroboscopic Artefacts bring their vision of the deepest and freshest electronic dance music to London for the very first time on April 2nd 2011. The SA family have destroyed Berlins Berghain and New Yorks Oktave party, and now Corsica Studio’s Funktion One sound system is in for some techno induced damage.

Room 1 sees the man behind the label, Lucy, present his dubbed-out, turned-up vision. And be sure to listen out for him dropping cuts from his album Wordplay For Working Bees. Keeping it twistedly-dark, Singapores Xhin packs a suitcase full of sinister sounds. Xhin, the creator of some of SAs most loved, most charted and most played releases, is something to behold: the hair, the bass line, the brilliance. Truss brings ones of his trademark experimental techno sets, its 4/4 for the dancing-yet-thinking-man. And as if that wasnt enough one of technos most exciting figures, Jonas Kopp flies in to make his UK debut. Just give a listen to his SA releases, we need say no more. With visuals from Oblivious Artefacts -the artist collective responsible for the entire graphic concept of SA- expect Corsica to erupt into a darkly elegant, futuristic world of monochrome
flowers and hallucinatory landscapes.
The SA family will be joined in Room 2 by EarToGround’s finest residents including the choice selections of Hans Bouffmyhre.

We just want to warn you that its going to be apocalyptic.

Well see you there then
