Cliff Lothar Reveals New/Old Track And Video

Music

Get ready for a blast of 303 from Cliff Lothar, the Dutch artist who appeared on the scene in 2013 with his White Savage EP that drew far reaching praise from John Talabot, Delta Funktionen and Thom Yorke from Radiohead. And us, of course.

'The Snow Is Falling' comes from his Old Jams Die Hard and is apparently ten years old – where was it hiding? This groovy piece is heavy enough to knock your socks off but those pretty, twinkling synths play the sort of melody you might expect from an eighties synthpop group like New Order or mid-2000s electro gurus Fischerspooner. At 3am, this would not spoil your night at all.

As for the rest of the EP, Old Jams Die Hard opens with some absolutely belting techno for the first two tracks. Then, well, it's not often that I would put soulful and acid together as adjectives, but it all makes perfect sense in the second half. The squelching bass of 'Going Dutch' is nothing if not a freaky jam with its rolling beat of toms and rimshots and that otherworldly, gutter dwelling vocal before 'The Snow Is Falling' wraps it all up blissfully.
