“less of a label, and more of a pressure system; a space where sound, visual art and physical design collide.”

After four years of meticulous planning and two years of development, Bosnian bass music producer Billain (Adis Kutkut) has unveiled CYBE Records alongside Texas-based DJ Ident (Jesse Campos), marking what the founders describe as “less of a label, and more of a pressure system; a space where sound, visual art and physical design collide.” The label launches on 26th January with Assembly I, a 30-artist compilation that aims to reshape industry conventions through an unapologetically artist-first approach.

In a bold departure from streaming-era norms, CYBE Records rejects platforms like Spotify, which the founders criticise for minimal artist royalties, instead prioritising physical releases and artist-empowering platforms such as Bandcamp. Assembly I will be released as a limited-edition “relic” constructed from recycled materials, with packaging designed collaboratively between musicians and visual artists who receive ongoing royalties from sales rather than one-time commissions – a significant shift from standard industry practice.

The compilation spans the experimental bass music spectrum, featuring contributions from underground heavyweights including Mr. Bill, Vorso, and Aethek (Billain’s own alias). The 30 tracks traverse sound-design-heavy drum & bass and halftime, distorted club beats, and minimal IDM textures. Assembly I releases on 26th January alongside a full documentary chronicling the project’s development, positioning CYBE Records as a provocative challenge to contemporary music industry structures.
