Becoming Real
Becoming Real has carved out a haunted genre in his bedroom, reanimated from fragments of dubstep echo and heart rending electronica, and rightfully christened ghoststep. Of these two tracks, coming out on the ever forward looking Ramp records, Jens Clock is the one for me- a track that lurches through ice cold chords, peppered with memories of machine gun snares and splintered mirrors. The melodies rise and drop, fade and splutter back into life with a mournful humanity that offsets their cold digital constructionin many ways this sounds how Burial may have if he referenced the hip hop of Jay Dee rather than Croyden 2 step, whats certain is that both Burial and Becoming Real exist in the same nostalgic modern English skunk glow suburbia that entirely belongs to now.
