80s Nigerian Ambient Rarity Reissued On Sahel Sounds
Sahel Sounds started life as a blog back in 2009, and has now evolved into a full blown label, dedicated to releasing the wilder synth experiments to come from the West of Africa, both contemporary and classic. Following on from the labels' recent round up of the Malian electronic dance scene, Sahel has now unearthed some more mid to late 80s treasure from Nigerian producer Mamman Sani. The collection of previously unreleased tunes was recorded in Niger and France between 1985 and 1988, and is the second offering from the Nigerien electric organ maestro on Sahel Sounds. Veering from minimal wave electronica to slinky cybernetic easy listening, fans of both Vangelis and William Onyeabor would do well to give the album the once over.
