Tomi Chair (aka Tominori Hosoya): The Wednesday Alternative Mix
Since 2014 Tominori Hosoya has been steadily releasing music for the love of creative expression.
His music has appeared on the likes of Minuendo Recordings, Snail Juice Records, Mixx Records and many more. However, his most recent outing has seen him appear on the prolific New York based imprint Scissor & Thread with a new EP which see's him operating under the alias of Tomi Chair alongside his own name. The release itself spans the realms of ambient, electronica, house and deep moody soundscapes.
Based in Tokyo, Japan he has evolved as a producer and disc jockey across a number of years, utilising his own interest in progressive, forward thinking experimental music.
Meandering between worlds he is a truly unique talent and we are delighted to have him contribute to our mix series.
Listen and read the interview below:
What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?
I hope you listen to this mix while driving in a warm car on a snow day.
What should we be wearing?
Please listen to my mix dressed how you feel. I hope that my mix creates a place where you can face your inner face.
What would be your dream setting to record a mix: Location/system/format?
I would like to play on a beautiful beach on a sunny Spring day. There are truly beautiful seas in Japan, but they are in limited places.
If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?
Every DJ and artist I respect is still active. Just I need to work harder & get good chance in the future haha. But Dubbyman is the DJ/Artist who I’d like to collaborate with the most. I’d also like to play a chillout set with Kaoru Inoue.
Upcoming in the world of…
Firstly, my first release of 2019 – "Tomi Chair / Tominori Hosoya – Tropical Imagination [Scissor & Thread]" is out now. This is a very special EP for me. I’ve made many 4×4 deep house/tech house tracks, so I was looking for a new idea for my next music productions. Then last year, I made many ambient / chillout demos, and this ep is my first ambient/chillout solo EP. I'm super happy to have this release on a label that I respect. Please check this EP & hear my new ideas.
And I have some future release projects on the way too. One of them is on Spanish Bucketround Records, out in Feb. 2019. It includes two originals & two great remixes by Manuel Costela & Ney Faustini. I also have a plan to release two vinyls from my small label – TC White and Lights. They are pressed, and I will announce them very soon. These three projects will all be released on vinyl, and I hope all you vinyl lovers check them 🙂
