An electronic titan delivers us a mixtape set to turbo charge your Friday.

Space Dimension Controller is the moniker of Jack Hamill, it is a moniker which has served him well over many years having released some of the most innovative, unique and exciting electronic music of the past decade.

Originally from Belfast, he has drawn upon inspiration from 80’s funk, neon lights, video games and beyond – blurring the lines between influences to create cutting edge dance music with one foot in the past and a one in the future. He has released arguably some of the best ‘dance’ albums of this generation and has appeared on pivotal labels such as Ninja Tune, Royal Oak and Dekmantel.

Whilst some of his music is cinematic by nature, his recent focus has been towards the clubs having been releasing material most prominently through his own recently launch label Tiraquon Records.

This has since been expanded upon with his latest outing coming in the form of an EP for Will Saul’s longstanding AUS Records.

As a DJ you never quite know what to expect from a Space Dimension Controller set – this is perhaps a testament to his vast, sprawling musical knowledge and keen desire to connect the dots between styles and genres.

We invited Jack to run wild on this one and he does so with a touch of class. Listen and read the interview below:

Please introduce yourself… Who are you, where are you and what are you?

Hello there, Iʼm: Mr. 8040, SDC, Tiraquon, Jack, Space Dimension Controller, The Jewel of Jupiter, Sultan of Saturn, Maestro of Mercury, Viscount of Venus, Superintendent of the Great Carina. The Globular Blobular, Unconfirmed Brown Dwarf, Pulstar Pain Division, Quasar Quencher, Dairy Free Milky Way, Purple Supercluster and Spacey Dave…

Iʼm currently sitting in the middle of a field on the north coast of Ireland and iʼm a music person who may or may not be from a place called Mikrosector-50.

What does your music sound like? Can you draw what you think it sounds like for us (an image from the old internet is acceptable)?

Where was the mix recorded?

Glenfinnan, Scotland near the shores of Loch Shiel.

What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?

Glenfinnan, Scotland near the shores of Loch Shiel.

What should we be wearing?

I donʼt know what is in your wardrobe, so I am not sure what is available.

What would be your dream setting to record a mix: Location/system/format?

Glenfinnan, Scotland near the shores of Loch Shiel.

Which track in the mix is your current favourite?

Roxy Music – India and the whole “Avalon” album in general.

Whatʼs your favourite recorded mix of all time?

Gandalfʼs sunrise set at the Battle of Helms Deep, 3 March III 3019.

If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?

I guess Daft Punk pre-superstardom. I have only ever known them as these massive enigmatic robots so it would be cool to be able to see them operating as the hardware synth nerd kids they started off as.

What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?

I started as an Ableton DJ as I was a producer first so had no idea how to mix etc. Once I started getting gigs after the Love Quadrant came out I bought some turntables and learned how to mix so iʼve got some turntables and small XDJ things now.

Whatʼs more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?

Probably the first as it can reset things, show what youʼre about. The end track for me is usually completely different from what iʼve played the whole set and I quite often just stand there awkwardly with an “I donʼt know what to do with my hands” vibe.

What were the first and last records you bought?

The earliest record I remember buying was probably a Limp Bizkit album, maybe Eiffel 65 – Blue? Those were on CD. The last physical record I bought was Pink Floyd – Meddle. The last digital record is hard to tell as it was a load of things so not sure which iʼd pick. A lot were included in this mix though. Have I answered this completely incorrectly? Should I only be talking about vinyl? Who am I?

If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?

Dusty carrots.

If it was an animal, what would it be?

A really sad otter.

Upcoming in the world of Space Dimension Controller?

Some EPs, singles, a mini album EP thing. Coming on my label, some other labels etc. Currently trying to decipher the various random influences I have taken onboard over the lockdown years and those following into something that could maybe form the basis of a new proper SDC album. I have also been making a lot of non SDC stuff the last couple of years which will be released in some shape at some point in some time in some place.
