Ny*Ak – The ‘I’M Off To Farmfest’ Ransom Note Mix

Most of us will find ourselves galavanting off to one festival or another (actually, in most cases it's probably several…) this summer. Some will be off enjoying boat parties and the like out on the adriatic sea while others will be staying a little closer to home. NY*AK is destined for Somerset at the end of July as he prepares to play a few records at this year's Farmfest. To help get into the festival spirit, he's provided us with this ace hour-long mix to make you feel like you're already out in the fields.

If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

I'm an electrician by trade, I can also make furniture or little bits of Nissans.

What’s the next big thing?

Pulled crabsticks.

If you had your own farm, what would you do with it?

I'd go ferreting every night.

When was the last time you wore a vest?

Hairy people shouldn't wear vests.

Why are yaks so cool?

They've got a relaxed attitude about things.

What makes you giggle like a schoolgirl?

My Garfield pencil case.

How much does it cost to ride the magic bus?

Its £3.80 into Sunderland on the x35, or you can get a day pass for £4.20.

If a cat wakes you up at 4am every day, what should you do?

Hit the snooze

What's the worst thing about there being a city that never sleeps? Should nocturnal animals be worried?

I cant think of a bad thing about a city that never sleeps. nocturnal animals are worriers anyway, thats why they're nocturnal. 

How many flights of stairs could you run up in one go?

One massive flight.

Have you got any good recipes to share with us?

Nope! theres only Flora in my fridge.

Where was the mix recorded?

My spare room.

What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?

In your work van.

What should we be wearing?

A hard hat. Nothing else.

What would be your dream setting to record a mix: Location/system/format?

Marcel's got a nice setup in his flat in Amsterdam – Urei mixer and Bozak isolator, and I can play his records too 🙂 and vinyl!

Which track in the mix is your current favourite?

The last one, Greg Perry – Come Fly With Me.

What’s your favourite recorded mix of all time?

DJ Spinna – Strange Games and Things.

If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?

Tony Humphries, the king!

What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?

Sound Lab 1600s and a Sound Lab mixer and I've managed to progress to 1210s and a djm600. Really wanting a Rane though. Lend me 2 grand?

What’s more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?

The last one. 

What were the first and last records you bought?

First was Here In The Twilight by The Masters, last one was the Mo Kolours on Future Times

If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?

The coffee revel.

If it was an animal what would it be?

A ferret.

One record in your collection that is impossible to mix into anything?

Any disco record, its a gamble every time I mix one in.

Upcoming in the world of NY*AK?

I've got Farmfest coming up with some excellent DJs, really looking forward to that, and I'm doing Crucial & Fresh Radio down london on the 10th July as a warm up. Release wise I've got the Karakul release which is out now on Phonica and everywhere else next week, an EP coming up with Ian Blevins, that's on SAFT, one of our favourite producers has done a quality remix too, some stuff on some VA EPs coming really soon, and a remix I've nearly finished for Peter Oakden (Fifty Fathoms Deep).
