Loft: The Ransom Note

Music

Coming live and direct from Leeds we welcome a heated newcomer to our Ransom Note Mix series.

LOFT is about to release his debut vinyl EP on The Astral Plane, an illustrious label associated with all things abstract and futuristic in relation to electronics. LOFT"s new release is described as a “hairbrained proto-jungle track”. Forward thinking, progressive music for the clubs, heady and yet pensive at the same time.

Listen to his illustrious mix below:

Where was the mix recorded?

I wouldn't say so much recorded as assembled, I'mma be up front and say that I don't mix like a "proper" DJ. Some say I work in a non-linear fashion, others might say I'm cheating, I say I have 0 time for vinyl purists.

What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?

Go for a skate, it should have all the right pockets of energy. Sit down and smoke with the Palmistry x 0comeups edit, reflect on not being able to frontside blunt.

What should we be wearing?

Garms nicers than you'd want to skate in.

What would be your dream setting to record a mix: Location/system/format?

the year is 1910, i'm kickin it with ma boi schaeffer. 2 reel to reels and a whole bunch of ambition.

Which track in the mix is your current favourite?

I mean, I don't wanna play favourites, all of these tunes are fucking incredible but eh if you want that tension it's like a movie init, look in the dead centre, andrew diaczuk does some amazing things.

What’s your favourite recorded mix of all time?

Basically any time that Hesska starts DJing i get a new favourite so yeah, she's pretty much the only DJ I listen to. Her and Lee.

If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?

My legal counsel Gabe told me to say Kaskade, for legal reasons, he's basically my legal attorney. law.

What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?

I used to use a combination of winamp and windows media player when i was a young'un. now i've graduated to the lofty (lol) heights of youtubemixer.net

What’s more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?

Answering a question with a question, what's a closing tune if time is an illusion. i mean i'm kinda being a facetious prick but tbh if you don't actually "mix" then it's pretty easy to make sure that every time is in the right place.

What were the first and last records you bought?

First record i bought with my own $$$ was autechre's chiastic slide, i sold it when i was 14 to buy jeans. presently i own neither the jeans nor the record, sad joeli. Most recent purchase was in Biit.me in Tallinn, happened across the automatics group's Summer Mix for like 18 euro. presently i still own this record. Happi joeli.

If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?

Dirt.

If it was an animal what would it be?

Dirt. the earth is alive, bro.

Upcoming in the world of…

Probably working 5 nights a week in the best bar in manchester, desperately trying to finish any releases for anyone. Oh yeah, i got a record out like next week or something with APR. got loads of amazing remixes on digi for anyone that sends me or Gabe a photo of their face with the record.
