LA electronic ambient duo Green-House present new LP Hinterlands
Founding member Olive Ardizoni and long-term collaborator Michael Flanagan strive for agency and utopia on their idyllic, introspective new album.
Described as a freeflowing fusion of ambient, folk, synth pop, environmental music, IDM, and modern classical music, ‘Hinterlands‘ explores the influence of environmental sound, our connection with the natural world, as well as “certain emotions within music that often aren’t taken seriously in art, like happiness and joy“.
Referencing Haroumi Hosono, the classic video game Final Fantasy, the contemporary folk of Jessica Pratt, and the Hungarian animated film director Sándor Reisenbüchler, the album promises a rich, discrete soundworld that builds on their two highly recommended albums for the influential LA imprint Leaving Records. There’s an admirable ambition to the motivation behind the record: “In a moment defined by environmental catastrophe, political exhaustion, and cultural nihilism, ‘Hinterlands’ proposes that imagining better worlds is itself a form of agency”.
Now signed to Ghostly International, ‘Hinterlands‘ is the duo’s third album. Ahead of the release, the duo have shared a video for first single ‘Farewell, Little Island‘, as well as a new video for second single ‘Under The Oak‘; “an impressionistic montage of evocative natural scenes and landscapes resembling kaleidoscopic fragments from a dream, providing an entrancing entry point into an album of expansive depth“.
Music of tranquility, reflection, and optimism, just what the doctor ordered. Check out the videos, artwork and tracklisting below.
‘Hinterlands‘ is out 20th March, more info HERE.
