Not only is the ever-growing wealth of the super-rich not trickling down, it is creating ever-growing instability in a future not worth having.” Nick Cohen

“Never throw in the towel. Use it to wipe off the sweat. Then keep on going.”

“A vacation is what you take when you can no longer take what you’ve been taking.” Earl Wilson

“The Queen is the ultimate dictator.” Steven Patrick Morrissey

“Art is born of humiliation.” W. H. Auden

“For a country described as “the new sick man of Europe” in the late 1990s, Germany appears to have made a superhuman recovery. Where did it all go right?
“In the 1980s and 1990s,” said Streeck, “when America took off in the direction of the dotcom boom, Germany remained a manufacturing economy, true to its artisanal roots….highly regulated, power was locally held. Employers had obligations to their workforce and the local community. Wages were high and workers had the right to influence decisions and sit on boards. In countries like Britain and America, that way of organising things was seen as a kind of death sentence for the economy.” Really good article on Germany’s sustainable economy.
Read that in conjunction with Nick Cohen’s excellent article on bank-rolling the super-rich.
