Steve Reich To Perform ‘Different Trains’ In Audio-Visual Event In Liverpool

Art & Culture

For the first time, legendary American composer Steve Reich has permitted the creation of a film accompaniment to his Grammy Award winning work 'Different Trains'. The exclusive site-specific audio-visual event will take place at Edge Hill Station in Liverpool, one of the oldest active passenger stations in the world. Filmmaker and artist Bill Morrison will work with Reich to create a new film commission from archive film stock of train travel during WWII gathered from archives in continental Europe and the US. 'Different Trains' composed in 1988 for string quartet and tape, was inspired by the journeys Reich made between New York and Los Angeles during World War II and that, had he lived in Europe, he may have been forced to travel in Holocaust trains instead.

Steve Reich & Bill Morrison – Different Trains LIVE takes place on 29th September 2016 at Metal, Edge Hill Station, Liverpool and tickets can be found HERE. There is also a crowd funded campaign taking place with exclusive rewards for backers.
