Russell’s is a stylish, comfortable new place for you to stay in East London. Whether you’re working, on a brief city break or in London for a longer holiday, this modern update of the old-fashioned B&B is the perfect base.

Each of the five unique bedrooms comes with luxury beds and linen, antique furniture, wooden floors and your own private bathroom or en suite. Each room is fitted out with a mixture of stylish design pieces from the last hundred years ranging from Victorian antiques and G-Plan sideboards to OMK chairs and modern art prints.

The House
The main room of the house is a bright, open space where you can enjoy breakfast, relax or work during the day or hang out before exploring East London. The plant- filled room is exclusively for guests and is the heart of the house; you can lounge around on the chesterfield sofa, leaf through our library of art books, listen to music or use our wi-fi. There’s also a secluded garden and a pet whippet called Reggie.

The Location
Russell’s is a Victorian house situated on a busy street in the heart of Clapton. Just 30 minutes from the (very) centre of London by public transport, or ten from Shoreditch and Dalston, Clapton is a perfect base; close enough to the well-known trendy side of East London to be convenient, but still an unspoiled community in its own right. Russell’s rubs shoulders with a perfect mix of the old and new; traditional pubs and photographer’s studios, old-fashioned cafs and new gourmet restaurants, the canal and the marshes and artists’ studios. Our immediate neighbours include fine food shop L’Epicerie, the brilliant Venetia’s caf and modern British restaurant Chatsworth Kitchen as well as the revitalised market.

The Idea
Russell’s is the first venture of its kind in East London and one of only a handful of modern bed and breakfasts in the whole city. The upmarket B&B has been a proven success in several other dynamic international cities, most notably Brooklyn in New York, Berlin and Barcelona. These establishments have proven perfect for open-minded travellers who want to avoid the clichd tourist traps of a city and meet like-minded people, without sacrificing comfort or convenience.

The Proprietor
Russell’s proprietor is Annette Russell. Previously she worked for style magazines Sleazenation and Vice and more recently she managed musicians and producers including Hot Chip, Switch and Zongamin. A long-time resident of East London, she has personally overseen the renovation and refurbishment of Russell’s. Russell’s will be open for business in January 2011 with rooms starting from 65 per night.
