Red Bull Culture Clash Reveals Competitors

Art & Culture

Red Bull have announced the line up for their yearly homage to Jamaican soundsystem culture  – the Culture Clash. Taking their format from the reggae tradition of sound systems competing to see who has the strongest tunes and the hypest vibes, this year, reigning champions, the grime kingpins Boy Better Know, will be going up against a tough set of pretenders. American hip hop crew A$AP Mob will be flying over from New York; a one off English mega system going be the name of Rebel Sound will be made up of Chase & Status, Shy FX and David Rodigan; and Jamaican dancehall kings Stone Love will be bringing their years of clash experience.

The event is split into a series of four rounds, where the crews have to battle it out based on the following criteria –

ROUND ONE – PRESSURE DROP (10 mins)

DJs play ANY STYLE – now’s the time to take the temperature of the crowd and then turn it up a notch.

ROUND TWO – THE SELECTOR (15 mins)

Crews are judged purely on tune selection.  Knowledge is king.

ROUND THREE – SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY (10 mins)

Crews twist it, playing an opponents style of music. Big test.  The mighty may fall.

ROUND FOUR – ARMAGEDDON (5 mins)

Clashing crews play the biggest TUNE in their bags – One for One. Each crew draws ONE tune then rotates to the next.  This is the final round, so double points and double daring. Make your selection count!

The event is set to take place in Earls Court on October 30th, with tickets on sale now for £20 from here
