Independent Record Market Prepares For 4th Year
At 4 years old, London's Annual Independent Record Label Market has become a welcome fixture in our diary. The Spitalfields Market hosted event, taking place on July 12th, is always a good chance to grab some exclusives and bargains direct from labels, especially because it's (currently, anyway) free from the madness, dumb hype and endless queues of Record Store Day. This years big draw is the announcement that Martin Mills, head of Beggars Group- the independent label umbrella organisation that is made up of 4AD, XL, Matador and Rough Trade – will be manning a special 'Beggars Archive' stall, which is set to feature rarities from the groups illustrious back catalouge. Other labels making their debut this year include Hyperdub, Greco Roman, Eglo, City Slang, 37 Adventures and Glassnote.
As everyone knows, there's nothing to guarantee you'll go home with great music quite like getting pissed while you record shop. Fortunate then, that there's going to be a craft brewery offshoot to this years market, where there will be selling all sorts of fine and unique beers. Probably best leave em til after you've bought the tunes though…
