Exclusive: Invisibl Skratch Piklz To Play First London Show Since 1998

Art & Culture

We've been given the scoop on the line up for this years DMC Worldwide Championship, and it's looking serious…

Performing for the first time in London since 1998, Invisibl Skratch Piklz – the legendary (like, genuinely legendary) turntablist crew of DJ Qbert, D-Styles and Shortkut will be showcasing the skills that saw them dominate the 80s and 90s DJ battling scene. In their mid-to-late 90s pomp, the Skratch Piklz won every contest 'cross the globe, thrashed every DJ that tried to take their crown, and developed turntablism into a bizarre new form, an unprecedented mix of virtuosity, B-boy culture, and showmanship that went beyond anything that had previously been considered music. For those that don't know, heres some footage of them in one of their most loved routines –

This years DMC will also have a series of perforamances, workshops and seminars from a bunch of luminaries old and new. The UK's DJ Woody will be premiering his live band showcasing tracks from his forthcoming debut LP The Point Of Contact. Killa Kela comes with his crew The Spitkingdom for a performance of beatboxing as an art form.

Workshops come from Popmaster Fabel of New York's iconic Rock Steady Crew, teaching pop n' locking, The Beatbox Collective showcasing their skills, Chester P and Farma G of British hip hop group Task Force will be hosting a lyricism workshop, whilst previous DMC winner DJ Fong Fong joins DJ Woody in a DJing master class.

Obviously, as well as all this, there are the battles themselves, with DJs from around the globe going to war to take the crown as the world's greatest turntablist…

This year's DMC takes place on September 24th at Kentish Town Forum, running from 14:00 – 23:00. Tickets and more info can be found on the DMC website
