Can The Paradise Garage Be Recreated In London?

Art & Culture

On Sunday 30th November, coinciding with World AIDS Day, A Night in Paradise will attempt to bring the spirit of the Paradise Garage to the club it inspired nearly twenty-five years ago – The Ministry of Sound.

To be fair, they're having a fair crack – they've got a line-up that includes US legends and the UK figures responsible for bringing the Paradise Garage ethos to Britain. The Box welcomes Danny Krivit, Joey Llanos, David DePino, Victor Rosado, and a live performance from Jocelyn Brown. In 103, Justin Berkmann joins a bill featuring Kenny Carpenter, Ricky Morrison, Frankie Foncett, David Piccioni, and a PA from Bryan Chambers. Handsome in the Baby Box features Horse Meat Disco, Jeffrey Hinton, The Reflex, and Fidel.

During the AIDS crisis at it’s epicentre in the early 80s, the Garage hosted the world’s first ever HIV benefit ‘Showers’ in 1982 and provided a support network for those affected by this not yet fully understood disease.

This event aims to raise £20,000 to support two of the world’s first and leading HIV charities; New York’s Gay Men’s Health Crisis or GMHC and the UK’s Terrence Higgins Trust.

Tickets start at £20, and are available, along with more info on the night, over here
