One of the pinnacles of Chicago House Musics 90s Wave, Derrick Carter is to kick-start 2011s series of A Night With

Derrick Carter’s pioneering sound has marked him out as one of the most influential people in the Chicago house scene. Hes become known all over the globe as the man with the boompty boomp, a phonetic attempt to describe his own distinctive underground house sound, now synonymous with Chicago, Carter’s home and musical base since he started making tunes in the late 80s. His early releases include I Think of You as Rednail, followed by Nu Pschidt and Hope under his own name. He combined woven scatting with sleepy minimal beats on Dreaming Again and skilfully cast his own low, sexy drawl over his trademark Carter grooves to form Boompty Boomp Theme.

Carter has since helmed the seminal Classic Records imprint that championed early releases from Tiefschwarz and modern classics such as Isolee. The label then ceased to exist, which was planned, after 100 releases with the initial idea to produce the series then fade out. This has been an opportunity, along with his Classics partner, the UKs Luke Solomon for Carter to write his own rules. Lovingly giving his musical and conceptual input has resulted in Classic becoming one of the leaders in the world of deep house. More recently Carter has become the 56th artist to submit his instalment in the acclaimed Fabric series. His mix demonstrates the plethora of musical legends hes worked with over the years. fabric 56 perfectly captures what makes Derrick Carter a truly original house music master. The dynamic chugging beats flow effortlessly throughout the seventeen tracks, many re-edited especially for the project or if not reinvented through tight accapellas and undiscovered samples.

Derricks creative side ventures further than music production as he has a huge grasp and interest in culture as a whole collecting art as well as innovative eco-fashion designs. His sets remain rooted in house, but he freely travels outside club tastes, seamlessly incorporating old school disco, soul, jazz and really whatever catches his fancy. By an unholy use of the filters and mixing at a level too brilliant to comprehend, he owns a talent to turn ordinary tracks into something truly magical.
