For almost a year Andrew Weatherall & Sean Johnston (Hardway Bros) have been carrying out a monthy experiment in interplanetary audio. The manifesto of their night, A Love From Outer Space is to never knowingly exceed 122bpm. Andrew describes the night as “an oasis of slowness in a world of increasing velocity”.
With a playlist spanning ambient, dub, post-punk, krautrock and the dark underbelly of disco, the club has quietly been gaining cult status amongst the East End’s music and clubbing cognescenti.
Conducted in a tiny Stoke Newington basement the club draws in a varied but staunchly supportive and open minded crowd, who, despite the languid tempo enthusiasticly greet the pair’s selections. Word of the night’s popularity has spread beyond the capital and ALFOS have been asked to host a boat party at this years Electric Elephant Festival in Croatia… more of which next week!
