Comedy Slices #39

Art & Culture

Festival season may be kicking off but in comedy land the Glastonbury equivalent (the Edinburgh Fringe Festival) is a way off. So, settle down for the circus of comedy in London this week.

Fri 28 2013 – Boris & Sergey’s Vaudevillian Adventure – London Wonderground –  15.50

Boris and Sergey are bringing their smash hit sell-out puppetry comedy show to Southbank. (Yup, thats right there are more comedian puppeteers around.) This cabaret of Bunraku puppetry is a mixed bag of semi-improvised skits and character comedy for a distinctly adult audience. And by the seven five star reviews theyve racked up, these filthy charmers never fail to amuse.

Thurs 27 – Mat Ricardo’s London Variety- Leicester Square Theatre – 15

From puppetry to juggling. In this new showcase format juggler extraordinaire Mat Ricardo hosts top comedians and variety acts. They perform their sets before being interviewed by Ricardo. This month on the hot seat is an exciting line up of Jenny Eclair, Jimmy Cricket, So and So Circus and Rod Laver. Im expecting juicy interview from that lot (especially Eclair). Oh and Ricardo will also being teaching himself a new routine each month, just for a more bespoke touch.

Sat 30th – Henning Wehn and authentic german christmas – Betsey Trotwood – 7.50

From puppetry to juggling to the purely insane –  an authentic German Christmas. In July. Henning Wehn is the ambassador of this bizarre night that is previewing ahead of a run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and mingles German Christmas Carols between stand up skits. This is night has got me curious but there better be mince pies. And mulled wine.
