comedy slices #27

Art & Culture
Like a hidden Easter Egg found un-expectantly when you are desperate for a chocolate hit, this week’s comedy slice is popping in with some delights. Comedy nights to ease you through the end of this week and nicely settle you into next week with it’s the ridiculous five working days. All good stuff to look forward to, and without calorie guilt of a Creme Egg.
Claudia O’Doherty is hilarious. This Australian comic is fast becoming a favourite with her peculiar brand of quirky comedy. In 2012 she was nominated for Edinburgh Comedy Award, and this year she is sure to be up for more awards. Before I get completely wrapped up in exulting the many delights of this O’Doherty (no there is no relation to David), I should mention that this night doesn’t just have Claudia on the bill.  Oh, no this gem of a night also offers you Live At The Apollo star Sara Pascoe and the sketch duo Two Episodes of Mash (consisting of Joe Wilkinson and Diane Morgan).  With such an excellent line-up of left-field comedians, this mad-cap variety show will set the weekend off to a nice if slightly surreal start.
Shaun Keaveny is always there on a weekday morning harassing BBC6 listeners to get up when the desire to stay in a warm bed can become overwhelming…And now Keavney is delving into the dark evening world of the stand up comic with his latest public offering – a mix of stand up, chat show and music. Keaveny presents a line up of talented comedians that are instantly recognisable from the usual circuit of TV comedy quizzes –  Tom Stade (Mock The Week) , Joe Lycett (Celebrity Juice), Sarah-Louise Young and Kerry Godliman (Channel 4’s Derek). What could be better on a Monday evening than seeing this bunch in what is sure to be a feel good kinda show? Very little.
